Hello,

Welcome to my new blog. That’s me on the left, sometime in the 80′s, what seems like a long long time ago. In fact I can’t even remember that time.

Well, where to start? I suppose the right place is ‘why have I set up a blog?’ Several reasons really.

First, I want to do something constructive for myself. I seem to of gone a fair while without creating anything, which is unusual for me. Sure I create lot of things at work (I’m a web programmer) but for myself the last thing I created was Britxbox and it’s been a few years since I’ve done anything creative with it.

Secondly, I recently deleted my facebook. I didn’t use it much anyway and all the fuss about their privacy policy seemed like an easy out. I never really liked it, my profile was set-up under duress. People who you hadn’t seen in years for a reason suddenly re-appeared and then let you into their inane trivial status updates… on that point I’m sure you’re thinking “what a douche, his twitter is just there ->”. Well, yeah. But if you use twitter you’ll understand it’s more than status updates really. I digress.

Having left facebook, I started to think. Is the digital me dead? No, of course not. but for all the people I ‘really’ know, who do use facebook where can I put the things I want to share online?

All the other reasons are tertiary, but I’d be remiss to omit them.

  • A place to put all those technical tips I’m always telling people. The number of times I’ve typed out how to set-up emails or how to stop spyware is enough for any man. So I apologise in advanced for the odd boring post, but at least they might be helpful.
  • I’m a big forum poster (at BXB, Britxbox) and commenter on websites but there are occasions when I want to address a matter but a comment or a thread don’t quite seem like the right form. So here I have an outlet.
  • A record of my thinking. It’s rather old fashioned but for all the photos and videos we take in our modern society, for all the CCTV and logs we appear on. The one thing we don’t do is record what we actually think. I won’t be keeping a diary but I will be recording my thoughts on the matters of the time.

Finally, I’ve always thought you’ve got to be a bit of a dick to blog. You know, who really wants to know you think? Maybe for some people it’s all about being the centre of attention. Yeah, some of my reasons above are purely to get people to look at me and my opinions. But above all, back to point one. I’m doing this for me.

I hope you enjoy my blog as much as I plan to.
